Vitamin D intake in young children with acute lower respiratory infection
A higher vitamin D intake than currently recommended might be needed to offer protection against diseases such as ALRI. Increased vitamin D supplementation could have important public health consequences, as bronchiolitis and pneumonia are the most common reasons for hospitalization in young children.
A pilot trial on the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux-related cough in infants
In infants with a clinical presentation suggestive of chronic GER-related cough, the use of omeprazole and bethanechol appears to be viable therapeutic option.
MRI-DWI improves the early diagnosis of brain abscess induced by Candida albicans in preterm infants
For suspected pediatric patients, MRI should be performed not only for those with abnormal CSF cultivation results but also for those with normal results. MRI-DWI and dynamic MRI examination can play an important role in the diagnosis of cerebral abscess infection-induced by Candida albicans of premature infants.
Cloning and sequence analysis of SLC25A13 transcripts in human amniocytes
The entire ORF of SLC25A13 cDNA can be successfully amplified from cultured human amniocytes, and revealed exon 5-11 skipping as a novel SLC25A13 transcript. Normal mRNA occupied majority of the transcripts in normal control and heterozygous amniocytes which contained normal allele and 851del4 mutation.
HIF-1α siRNA reduces retinal neovascularization in a mouse model of retinopathy of prematurity
RNA interference targeting HIF-1α can effectively inhibit the retinal neovascularization of ROP. Fluorescence (FITC-Dextran, ×4) of the experiment group showed noticeably smaller central retinal capillary non-perfusion area (triangle mark) and fewer new vascular plexuses (arrow mark) than the control group, and that the surrounding capillary network was basically normal.
